MicroStrategy, a publicly traded company that’s the world’s largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, has reported buying more of the flagship cryptocurrency even as the market hit turbulence beginning early November.
According to the filing MicroStrategy submitted a 28 December document to the US Securities and Exchange Commission. It stated that it purchased an additional 2,500 bitcoins between January 1, 2022, and December 24, 2022.
The total amount of Bitcoin purchased by the software analytics and business insight firm was approximately $56.4 million over two months, and $4.03 trillion in total.
MicroStrategy has 132, 500 Bitcoins
As crypto navigated the turmoil caused by FTX’s collapse that had crypto price tapping new multi-year lows, MicroStrategy saw an opportunity to buy Bitcoin. In other words, between November 1st and December 21st, 2022, the company acquired 2,395 bitcoins, which was worth $42.8 million.
This period saw the acquisition of 42.8 million BTC at an average price $17,871 per coin.
MicroStrategy bought 704 Bitcoins for $11.8 Million on 22 December 2022. According to MicroStrategy, the average price per coin was $16,776 The company intends to offset capital losses with capital gains from earlier sales, even though the sale was a loss.
MicroStrategy returned to the market on December 24, 2022, despite the BTC sale. The company bought 810 more bitcoins for an average price $16,845, and a total cost of $13.6 million. The company had purchased 2,500 bitcoins for $56.4 million by the 27th of December 2022.
MicroStrategy’s Bitcoin holdings had increased from 130,000 BTC at October’s end to 132,500 BTC by December 2022.
MicroStrategy spent $4.03 BTC on recent purchases since 2020, when it made its first purchase. The coins’ average purchase price currently stands at $30,397 per bitcoin.
