Ethereum’s co-founder Vitalik Buterin in a tweet Today’s hint was that the exact date of Ethereum Merge would be determined by hashrate.
Bordel.wtf previously predicted that the upgrade would be performed on September 15, and while Vitalik Buterin, Ethereum Foundation co-founder, and Vitalik Buterin did not insist on a date for the upgrade, it appears likely to take place on September 15, based on current hashrate of 879.2 TH/s.
According to Butterin’s tweet, the terminal total difficulty (TTD) has been set to 58750000000000000000000.
When the TTD is reached Ethereum Mainnet will merge the Beacon Chain with the Beacon Chain, and transition from Proof-of-Work(PoW), to Proof-of-Stake(PoS) consensus mechanism.
There is a fixed number of hashes left
Buterin claims that Ethereum mainnet PoW is now able to mine fixed hashes.
The merge will take place by September 15 if the hasrate remains at 879.2 TH/s. If the hashrate fluctuates, however, the Merge date may change.
Ethereum Network currently requires to maintain an average hashrate of 872.2 TH/s to achieve the set TTD of 58750000000000000000000 BY September 15 at 04:44 UTC.
Goerli testnet Merge has already been completed
Developers have completed the Goerli testnet Merge this week. All eyes now turn to the upcoming Bellatrix/Paris upgrades, which are tentatively set for September 6th and September 15.
The Merge will take place before the Bellatrix upgrade, and probably before September ends.
The Merge upgrade is awaited by the crypto community eagerly. It is also expected that it will have a significant impact on the price for ether (ETH).
